Industrial Policy Subsidies

Subsidies granted by EU member states

This page contains the data underpinning analyses in a Jacques Delors Centre Policy Brief on EU Industrial Policy Governance . Its main data source is the transparency register, which contains most aid granted by member states above certain threshold amounts. The classification of granted aid into categories (such as batteries, biotech, EVs, etc.) is based on its corresponding state aid decision. This classification into aid categories, and the classification whether aid was granted in the context of Covid, was done by analysing the state aid decision documents (available here), using a large language model. For a more detailed overview of the methodology and data caveats, click here .

The below chart shows the sum of individual aid granted (over €500 000) for the main industrial policy areas.

Methodology

The below chart provides more comprehensive information about granted aid. In contrast to the chart above, this chart entails not just aid classified as industrial policy, but all entries above €500 000 in the transparency register.
Instructions: Click on an element in the bar chart, to further investigate the country split. By clicking, then, on a country, the table below reveals all the individual granted aid.
